Here's how you can talk about driving innovation in a job interview.

Specially in corporate environments of incumbents, any new business idea should be pursued with the ambition, that this idea can be converted into a relevant and significant revenue stream within an acceptable time frame. The significance of such an innovation should be defined according to the companies' threatening disruptors: ideally relevant business ideas create complementary revenue streams to the existing legacy business. The time frame depends very much on the innovation cycles of company's industry - however, what we are currently seeing is that in every industry, innovation cycles are compressing due to the power of tech shifts catering for innovations.

Everyday learning is one of the most important traits, that a business innovator should present while pursuing a new endeavor or project. It's about relentlessly questioning current solutions and picturing how current AND already foreseeable tech-shifts are changing the way we live, work and trade. Learning today also requires mastering various domains: it's not sufficient to be a vertical expert in one specific domain - rather, it's important to combine various concepts or apply a concept that was fruitful in one domain to another, different domain. Learning can then mean: first UNlearning to be open for a new solution.

Risk management is two-fold important: first, for the obvious mitigation of compelling events, that threaten executing a business. The second perspective though: when the mitigation approach is outstanding in the sense, that it's better than how the competition responds to unforeseen, compelling events with threatening potential, then a company has an advantage that can be turned into a margin pool. Therefore, I would always recommend seeing risks as potential pool for chances, that have a favorable competition and margin source.

Thinking long-term involves having a holistic and forward-looking perspective on situations, considering the future implications of current actions and decisions. This cognitive ability is crucial for addressing the complex challenges humanity faces and ensuring sustainable development over time. By focusing on the future, you can anticipate trends and adapt to changes in the business landscape. Additionally, illustrating how your innovative approach applies to the company’s long-term goals and challenges demonstrates your commitment to its sustained growth and evolution.
