Here's how you can strengthen your network within your organization, including your boss and colleagues.

People in the corporate have belittled this concept of engaging with colleagues as "buttering". But in the real world scenario it should be called engaging and building relationships. Casual meetings and informal talks are fine. However the most important thing that one can do to grow their network within the organization is by talking about the work you do. Communicate your achievements to everyone especially the decision makers. That's how you can not only strengthen your network but also increase the chances of career growth.

Las relaciones de network se generan por confianza, y no hay mejor manera que impulsarla que con un trabajo muy bien hecho. (No tiene que ser una gran proyecto de consultoría, puede ser un aporte real).

En algunas empresas se ha establecido espacios periódicos para recibir feedback (puede ser mensual, cada dos o tres meses, etcétera). De igual manera recomiendo que uno mismo pueda solicitar espacios (formales e informales) para recibir feeback con el líder directo, asi también como con clientes internos o con compa?eros. Lo importante es ser abierto al feeback que se brindará en ese espacio y poder tomar acciones para crecer y mejorar.

The two most important things when seeking feedback: be open to it & be prepared to act on it. Genuinely seeking feedback from bosses and peers is important but it's also equally as important to be prepared to hear that feedback and to take active steps to improve. When you receive feedback take time to process and reflect on that feedback, ask for clarification or examples if needed and ask for suggestions or advice on improving. Remember that small steps over time lead to significant change, it's doesn't have to happen overnight!

Sharing your expertise with your team is an effective way to strengthen your internal network. By organizing brief presentations or casual training sessions on subjects you're skilled in, you not only establish yourself as a valuable resource within your organization but also foster a culture of learning and knowledge sharing. Ensuring that your sessions are engaging and cater to your audience's interests will enhance participation.

Personalizing your interactions can greatly enhance your perception within your network. By remembering and appropriately mentioning details about your colleagues' lives and interests, you demonstrate that you view them as individuals, not just coworkers. Celebrating their achievements, recognizing their milestones, and providing support during difficult times can strengthen personal connections, which often translate into more robust professional relationships.

In the digital age, technology plays a pivotal role in networking. Utilizing internal communication tools can help maintain connections with colleagues. Engaging in pertinent discussions and sharing beneficial information or articles can add value to the team. Moreover, keeping a professional profile on company-specific social networks enhances visibility and accessibility, fostering a sense of community within the organization.

I encourage my clients to participate in cross-departmental/companwide committees and projects - this is a great way to get to know people you otherwise might not meet, and for others to get to see you in action. Be selective about what you volunteer for - make sure it's something you will enjoy and that will showcase your skills and strengths.
