Here's how you can stand out as a community organizer according to employers.

Standing out as a community organizer in front of your employer is important task. Building trust within the community is essential. When your efforts resonate with the community needs, they will speak about your work, passion, help, and support. This recognition will enhance your portfolio and garner appreciation from management for your role as a community organizer.

Building trust is intricate. Trust is hard won and easily lost so how you show up (and keep showing up) greatly matters. In addition to the many best practices others will share, remember this one thing: how you build safety with people energetically is something to pay attention to. If you want to be build trust you have to be open to trusting: people, the process, the journey. That’s not always easy & boundaries are important for everyone’s overall safety, including yours. Mindfully explore your own judgments and perceptions. This will help you in honoring the space needed to receive people as they are. People come as they are & when they can do so safely, without judgement, each moment becomes a fertile building opportunity.

Building trust is accomplished by getting to know the members of the community AND what is already being done/discussed about the problem to be addressed. Community organizers should NEVER walk in with a plan. They should walk in with an open mind and the ability to stay in the background, assist in gaining access to necessary resources, and facilitating intra- community strength building. Ideally, you do your job, walk away, and the community has all the skills and connections ruins they need to thrive.

Live with them. Accept them as they are. Eat together with them no matter what food unless you need to follow a special diet for healthy purposes. Learn the core norms and practices but not to impose on them. Share your knowledge and experiences and do not hold anything back from them. Sharing knowledge is a most powerful empowering tool. Effective engagement when associating yourself with the community and its leaders has one golden rule: Listen Completely First Before Speaking. Many times an individual while listening to someone in conversation my want to “chime in” before the other person finishes their thoughts while they are still speaking to complete their communication message. It is here that the strongest “guard rail” can become weak and break down. Any effective communicator should listen intently and completely before offering any advice e, information and/or concern. The patient listener will show to anyone he or she is speaking to that you are the person that people want to go to when there is a subject to be heard and completed. Become That Voice of Reason!

One thing I found helpful in effective engagement in the community is that 'think globally act locally'. Thinking globally is about trying to solve their problems from the ground assuming globally while acting locally meant to know and do as their behavior, believes, knowledge, economy and participate on their social life. In making awareness about your thoughts, first you have to know their interest, needs and ideas. You have to think about the words you use in speech. Use motivational quotes and sayings while delivering your thoughts. Be respectful to be respected, accepted and engaged successfully.

I like to start with the end in mind. What is THE problem we’re trying to solve or the activity we want to implement. This sets the vision and offers a target to work towards. Then, it feels easier to set values, goals, actions, determine resources, etc. As noted above, having a vision created by community will create energy where momentum can grow and more folks will see themselves in the work and join in.

The key is the Strategic part of the vision. You are not going to just wake up President or the highest paid player in the NFL. The strategy is what defines the difference in a dream and a vision. When I dream I'm thinking about winning the lottery. When I'm envisioning my future I'm thinking about the conversations to have and elbows to bump, the blue ribbons to win, and arm wrestling contest to win that will get me there.

Apart from mobilizing resources, it is also important to quantify your achievements. You can do this by: ?? Using metrics to show your impact, such as the number of people mobilized, and funds raised. ?? Demonstrating the percentage increase in community participation.

Mobilizing information can change your life and your health. Leveraging that information can be a game-changer. Sharing the findings will influence others to do their research. Maximizing that influence will make an impact and lead to a healthy partnership.

Here are a few additional keys to consider: ?? Showcase your core skills: ? Emphasize skills like leadership, communication, project management, conflict resolution, & public speaking. ? Include examples where you have effectively used these skills. ?? Demonstrate passion & commitment: ? Share your personal connection to the causes you support. ? Highlight long-term involvement or ongoing projects that show dedication. ?? Showcase Problem-Solving Abilities: ? Provide examples of challenges you’ve faced & how you overcame them. ? Highlight innovative solutions you’ve implemented to engage & support the community. ?? Provide Testimonials & References: ? Include letters from community members or leaders who can attest to your impact.

Be willing to learn! Being close-minded will only close doors of opportunity. I learned hard lessons in my life by trusting the wrong resource. Knowledge becomes power when we research the unknowns. For example, I trusted pharmaceutical technology until it broke my trust. Never thought once they didn't give me the whole story. I turned a blind eye because I trusted the professionals. Now with that said. There are other ways to solve an issue! Being aware and proactive was the key to regaining my health. All of these key points reflect a personal journey to discovery.
