A bad visual aid is worse than no visual aid at all. Make sure to use established principles of graphic design such as contract, repetition, alignment, and proximity when preparing visual aids. Make good use of other principles like small multiples and categorization to show differences across groups. Don't just put information on a PowerPoint slide and assume that's good enough. Always evaluate graphics from the perspective of someone who has no idea what you're talking about.
