Track success. The question can better be turned around. Success means that the employee stays with the company. Basically, meaning that the boss has not paid the right attention to his team and has not been listening or reading his team. It starts with communication and getting the team involved. Keep challenging them to step out of their comfort zone. That is what engineering is all about - extending your skills to solve any issue or/and develop new technologies/methods. Forget numbers and statistics - they make anything look alive - even the dead cow of which you have the steak in front of you. Once an issue has progressed into a problem and our/your team is requested to re-solve same, this means that many things have been done right in the team before that moment.
