Here's how you can showcase your problem-solving skills in a User Experience (UX) internship.

My Master's program has taught me that design is not about your own bias' but rather how we listen to the individuals who are using products / web / app. There is a sort of psychology to design that needs to be taken into consideration during the early stages of wireframing and UI

As an intern, you are working on your networking, observation and short-term memory skills. The problems you will solve may seem minor, but you will be exercising your muscles to work when you get a job. Serve that coffee with gusto! Clean up after everyone with joy! Answer those phones with a smile on your face. And distribute the mail gracefully. Showing you are tidy, pleasant, approachable and joyful is more valuable than trying to one-up everyone and prove yourself. As an intern, you are not the leader, but you can lead by example and never lower your work ethic and standards. User Research is vital to the end product of design. This can come in a variety of ways! Surveys, usability tests and 3rd party programs can give designers immense data to work with to improve design.

The iterative process is one of my favorite stages of UX design. This allows all the ideas and data come together to create an end product. Whether tour design goes through one iteration or many, each differentiating detail can be something we take away into a new design.

Prototyping is tricky! There is where you are using your design in an interactive way. How will the users respond to the next steps? How will users respond to the branding and UI created for the app / web? This is where you can experiment and put yourself into the shoes of the user.

You are only as successful as the team you create and work with. Being able to take on criticism is important to self development. Listening to your colleagues and coming up with solutions together is imperative to the effectiveness of the design or product.
