Demonstrating our critical thinking skills in a job interview is crucial to showcase our ability. Explaining our past experiences where we used critical thinking to solve a problem or make a decision. Explain the situation, the steps you took to analyze the problem, and the outcome of your decision. Providing examples of how we have successfully solved complex problems in the past. This will give them a confident about you. Show that we are open to learning and adapting by discussing how we reflect on your decisions and experiences to improve our critical thinking skills over time. Finally, asking thoughtful questions during the interview that demonstrate our curiosity, analytical thinking, and desire to understand the company.

I find it helpful to first fully understand the questions or problems posed to you. Take a moment to process information and carefully analyze how you can work around it. This demonstrates that you're not just giving rehearsed answers but are engaging with the question on a deeper level. Be sure to bring out your unique thinking that clearly justify your answers.

When asked about a specific experience in an interview and lacking that direct experience, too many people simply answer "no" in response to the question. While honest, it doesn't highlight the experience one does have or demonstrate clinical thinking skills. Through changing the response to "no, but...", one can open the door to draw in similar or tangential experiences that show how one, as a candidate, would draw upon the experiences she/he has to be successful in the role.

Exhibit your analytical skills by describing how you evaluate information to make decisions. Discuss scenarios where you had to consider various data points, weigh alternatives, and assess risks to make informed decisions. For example, explain a situation where you used data analysis to influence product development strategies. Using life cycle analysis tools, I assessed the carbon footprint and water usage of our products. I compared this data against industry benchmarks and explored various scenarios to see how changes in material sourcing could affect our environmental impact.

When you ask a question that triggers a response from your interviewer on a challenging issue, dig deeper. Ask more questions on specific aspects of the issue, and tie in brief anecdotes from your own experience to show that you've solved similar problems in the past. Also, consider a few frameworks for questioning. For example, the "five whys" method is useful, where you continue to ask "why" to get to the root cause. You can also ask about the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the situation to attack it from multiple angles. Just be careful not to sound like an interrogator or you may turn off the interviewer. For example, you can adjust the "five whys" so that it sounds less repetitive.

As an interviewer, I always find that the best tool for understanding someone's ability is by the questions they ask. In this case, asking questions can showcase your thought process, but also help you answer the critical thinking question at hand.

The is always more information to be had apart from the initial question. Asking follow on questions before coming up with a solution tells an employer that you are trying to understand the problem from all angles. However, knowing when you have enough information is key so that you aren't wasting time in applying a solution.

Any solution requires a methodology to apply. It is critical to be able to apply this method. Without it, the fix is worthless. It's like building a model airplane with directions that you don't understand. This fix is written right in front of you, but if you cant apply or execute it, it's worthless

You need to train for it! In the same way that you read and resolve at home dozens of IQ games before any written aptitude testing, you hone and sharpen your critical thinking by asking before and during the interview if the usual way of doing things is the most profitable, the most convenient, or the one that will better fit the definition of customer delight under the particular circumstances of the interview. Remember that you are rendering a service to the interviewer, not vice versa. Just don't phrase what you think is what the interviewer wants to hear. Be critical of yourself first and let that criticism be observed.
