Here's how you can secure a job offer after a layoff and stand out from other candidates.

Do not have a common resume for all job applications. Tailor your resume as per the job description and the company requirement Leverage your professional network, including former colleagues, mentors, and industry contacts. Many who are layed off, start with blaming themselves. Or their bosses. This is the wrong foot to start on. The faster you can get over it, the sooner you can move onward. Reflect on all the good things that you can take with you. I'm sure there will be many. And if for anychance there was some learning for you, decide that you will overcome and then work on your strengths.

This is not something you do AFTER you lose your job. Do this every 6 months, while you are employed. If you don't have anything exceptional to include, be very concerned. This has to be a living breathing document. Look at instances where you received appreciation. Look at tasks that you were proud of. Think of problems that you resolved. These should find your way into the resume. Stack rank them so it doesn't bloat up.

How did you treat people when they reached out to you? Expect Karma to bite back when you are at the receiving end. Again, this is not something you do AFTER you lose your job. Hopefully, you know the person well before you do this. If they refuse, try someone else. The advantage is that your resume doesn't go down a black hole. You can use your contact to get feedback and then improve your game.

Don't list down responsibilities. List down quantifiable achievements. That's how you stick out. Everyone is including only responsibilities. These are things that you were supposed to do. How well you actually did them - is what will get your foot in the door
