Here's how you can regain motivation after a setback in your career as a commercial interior designer.

Tomate un tiempo de introspección. Siempre es bueno tomarse un tiempo para mirar hacia nuestros adentros y encontrar ahí la motivación y la disciplina para continuar el camino después de un revés. Es bueno apoyarse de actividades relacionadas al entorno para mantenerse al margen y alistarse para dar tu siguiente paso. También considero importante realizar ejercicios para corregir posibles fallas detectadas en nuestro proceso y pedir por retroalimentación a colegas del gremio o personas de tu confianza.

Reflect Deeply: Take time to reflect on what went wrong and why. Analyze the situation objectively, identifying areas for improvement without blaming yourself excessively.

Seek Support: Reach out to mentors, colleagues, or friends for support and advice. Talking to others who understand your field can provide valuable perspective and encouragement.

Was it something you missed? Was it a poorly drawn detail on plan? Whatever it was, see this as an opportunity: Interior design is as much organization, planning and management (if not more) than it is creative. Learn how to prepare your projects, trades, sites and client expectations. If you need help with this, take a class, attend seminars, reach out for help. Learn, evolve, improve and grow. After 15 years, I still say I have so much to learn. This is still my beginning!

Mishaps will HAPPEN. RULE #1? Don’t see it as a set back. Construction is an ongoing evolving process that is as organic as it gets. No matter how much you plan, prep, prepare- you can’t oversee every last detail. TAKE ACTION; - when a problem occurs, jump into problem solving. Reach out for help if needed - annotate errors on plan and discuss with contractors how to find possible solutions. working as a team is important. - Be prepared to assume responsibility for mishaps and errors-commercial designers should have great liability plans to help cover costs of issues. There are a slew of set backs at any moment in a commercial designer’s career. The truth is, we never stop learning from those mishaps. It’s truly impossible to prevent a set back and impossible to forecast what might go wrong. The best you can do in any situation indicated above: 1) learn how to set expectations for clients. BE TRANSPARENT 2) Draft plans with high accuracy. Your legends and FFE books are CRUCIAL. Learn how to improve these! 3)introduce the best trades 4)learn from your mistakes by keeping track of all oversights!

Here’s what else to consider: Embrace resilience and persistence as essential qualities for success in any career. Remember that setbacks are a natural part of professional growth and can provide valuable learning opportunities. Stay adaptable and open to new possibilities as you navigate challenges in your career.
