A message in the copy can be interpreted depending on individual context. So, if the cause of rejection is that the copy/sample isn't well-liked, you can move on. It happens more often than not. However, the things to dwell upon are Did your job application reflect your WOW! moments as a copywriter? Did you cite instances where your copy made a difference, statistically or otherwise? Ex. increased viewership, followers, subscribers or catered to a new set of audience, changed a mindset, was highly empathetic. Did you include adequate examples across genres? Ad copy, social media, articles, newsletters, etc. 4. Does your application contain the most recent instances/stories or outdated, irrelevant ones?

Most of the time, you don't even get feedback. You don't know WHY you got rejected. In that case, it's best not to assume anything. I made this mistake early in my career only to find out later that the company ended up hiring only referrals. There's amazing advice out here already about HOW you can improve. I'd just like to add - if you didn't get any feedback even after seeking it, don't beat yourself up!

Don't focus only on 'published' work that has been ravaged by a micromanaging team! Update your portfolio with work that you are proud of, regardless of it's 'status' out in the world.

When you apply for the second or even third time, they will be familiar with your name through the interactions you have had over time.
