Having been in academia for a number of years, I have a lot of experience with writing. For me, the best way to recognize and pivot is to read and get feedback. Read to know what good writing sounds like and get feedback so you can spot your errors.?It is much harder to notice your own mistakes than others. So, let someone else help you see your errors and write, review, and rewrite again and again. The more you write, the better you will get and the easier it will be for you to notice your most common mistakes. Most published writing has been rewritten numerous times before it has reached publication status. Don't compare your early writing to someone else's polished publications. With time, patience, and practice, you will get there too.
