Here's how you can position yourself for a promotion based on key factors employers look for.

One of the things that can provide you with a competitive advantage when seeking promotion is the acquisition of formal skills in decision-making. The ability to systematically guide your team/organisation through complex decision-making processes positions you extraordinarily well for promotion, as decision-making is something in which so few people are formally trained. This skill also helps future-proof your career (as AI is unlikely to be able to perform complex decision analyses without human input any time soon) and aligns with precisely the kinds of skills the WEF and others suggest are likely to be in demand by employers over the next decade e.g. judgement in decision-making, complex problem solving, and related high-level skills.

My belief is that promotion comes from within a person because when an individual desires more from their vocational, relationships, or education, they will take the initiative to increase or change things that are within their control to move them in the direction of a promotion.

To secure a promotion, it’s essential to continually enhance and diversify your skills. Employers appreciate those who actively seek out new knowledge in technologies, methods, or industry developments. Showing a forward-thinking attitude towards your professional growth signals your dedication to your position and the company. It’s important to not only possess the necessary skills but also to effectively utilize them to generate value for your organization.

Leadership comes in many forms. Can be little cross team events or larger multi facet projects. Show you can little things. If you can't do those, won't get the bigger ones.

Change is always a consistent. Those that accept and adopt are much easier to support than those who fight not to change or stuck in the "we've always done it this way" mode.
