One of the failures I've had personally that youngins can learn from : - in web3 VC, don't assume or follow a lead investors due diligence and don't assume they did any at all - always conduct your own DD on all investment opportunities thoroughly according to your funds process - due to time constraints or fighting for cap table allocations last minute, I've been in situations where we would bypass or do minimal DD bc a tier 1 VC was involved only to later get burned once we dug deeper over time Put in the work. Never skip, never rely on leads or other firm DDs, especially at the beginning, until let say you've coinvested with a few VCs into winners together where you can also trust their process and then share DD on deals.
