In consulting, clarity of goals, both for the consultant and client matters. Without it, ambiguity may lead to negative friction and the experience of a dissatisfied customer. Not only should goals be set (which is sometimes where persons stop the process), but, what the measurable or obvious expected outcome I should be agreed upon by both parties, preferably in writing. This should be used as a gauge throughout the consultantation journey to ensure there is no deviation of focus and to monitor evolving success or lack thereof so that adjustments, if necessary, can be made.
