Please DO NOT ask for feedback on your resume, your pitch and even your attire! That is not why Recruiters/HR paid money to have a booth at the job fair. This advice is absolutely worse advice! The first step to being successful at a job fair is doing your research on which employers are going to be there, what roles they are hiring for and narrowing down to your top 5-10 employers who are hiring for the role you want. 2nd step is to custom-write your resume for each company and each role they are hiring for and also make a portfolio, ready to present yourself to the Recruiters. You want to stand out of the crowd not blend in.

You should already have your resume custom-written for each job before you show up to the job fair. Remember, companies that are going to be at the job fair are hiring for top talent. That’s why they’re paying money to have a booth. Research which companies are attending and what roles they are hiring for. Get this information before attending, so you can custom-write your resume and cover letter for each job. When you show up, you are ready to give them your tailored resume. I even suggest making a pitch deck on why they should hire you. This preparation will set you apart from others and show you are serious about the opportunity.

Elevator Pitches are dead. No one remembers them, and no one cares. That’s the truth! People’s attention span is less than 3 seconds. The best way to grab someone’s attention is to touch on their pain point. Do research on the company you are interested in. Find the immediate problem or challenge they are facing that you can solve. You’ll be surprised how much information is available online. Then come up with the top 3 recommendations to solve that problem. Start the conversation with these insights at job fairs. Remember, companies have paid money to get a booth at the Job Fair. You have one shot to impress them, and you are not going to do it with an Elevator Pitch. Impress them by knowing their problems better than they do.
