roles and responsibilities. first define the consultant by the role family. then, if you are breaking it down further. traditionally this is done by hierarchy (and assessment of cost against paid fee) but understanding peoples' personal drive is important too. Do they really want to design a bridge? Do they want more client exposure? are they a future leader? are they an incredible technician?

Initiating a new design project via work breakdown structure (WBS) is a very good way to both logically outline deliverables, but also assign said deliverables to various role-players as well as to role up groups of the same deliverables into units with clear decision making and management. The deliverables, along with their assigned leads can be clearly charted out via top-down hierarchical flow chart and be used as a visual queue, both to clearly reinforce assignments, but with the added benefit of seeing how certain deliverables align with adjacent deliverables. This enables each role-player clear delimitation of what is expected of them, but also gives a view into team activities.

I think a detailed schedule with Revit or whatever BIM Software is used is an excellent way to keep costs within budget. Once the costs are within budget then that will hold everyone accountable when it comes to what their role is and what is expected!

Clearly defining roles and responsibilities is such a basic but immensely impactful activity if done right. Most of us leaders, impact lives rather than get the work done and delineating proper roles helps achieve both of tasks. Clearly defined roles tend to shift accountability and set up clear goals for the entire team. This helps in clear actionable towards a collective goal. This is the least we as leaders can do.

experts are essential to getting stuff done. trust them to do the detail and as the conductor / leader / manager of the team you look after how all these views are woven together. as a project lead / development manager / client representative I have always prided myself on being a specialist generalist who is great at bringing together a team of experts. i am nosey and bossy - i ask a lot of questions and make decisions about how we will all move forward.

Revit / BIM working / Teams / Sharepoint / CDEs whatever your method, work together, on the same files so you reduce abortive working. Encourage working meetings where plans are developed in real time... online meetings can be more productive than in person ones when you use the right software

I have seen companies use 24 hour live feed cameras for investors to monitor all the progress being made on the project. I think BIM Software also plays a major part in keeping progress transparent and shared throughout the team.

careful with this. monitoring is not micro-managing. and you have to listen actively, you may be the problem. i like to trust people and let them tell me if there is an issue as my default - the risk to this may be that you find out the project is behind schedule later than you could, but this happens rarely in my experience.
