Energy savings can be optimized by understanding how your building will be used by future tenants. Whether you are working on a brand new design-build project or renovating an existing facility, owner representatives should convey any special operating requirements for the building, like 24-7 operation or multiple stakeholders with varying schedules. Designs that cater to end-use with multiple programmable zones are much more efficient than single whole-building schedules that encourage an all-or-nothing system response. Additionally, including analytic tags and calculated points in the integration design will help ensure data is available for future analysis when it comes time to evaluate the building's overall performance.

It is always important to consider getting occupant feedback on a regular basis. BAS efficiency, while targeting cost savings, should also prioritize comfort. Of course, you cannot please everyone with specific settings. No BAS will ever be that smart. But with feedback, you will be able to get an idea on how to educate building staff and set some sort of compromise. This is the "human advantage".
