One thing I've found helpful in R&D is to pay attention to the small details, if a small detail is overlooked in the early stages of a project this could bring serious repercussions in the future, do not be afraid to raise your hand, if it end up being nothing important then you got rid of a potential threat on the other hand, if it is something critical that everyone overlooked you will first learn and then you will be helping the team reach the goals desired with the project you are working on.
