The most difficult step is the 1st step. You start applying to conferences, then getting invited to conferences. Once that take place, be sure to celebrate that milestone as it would get easier to be invited to conferences. From there, just talk to more people and take a real interest in what they do. This is how to network and get to know more people. While doing this way would be a slower way than to zoom in with laser focus, you get to know the industry better, and have organic growth of your network within the industry. once this is done, you can start to target people, or organisations that you can talk to. Dont be surprise that by then, this would come naturally.

That remains true. However, this does not make the work of others less impactful. Sometimes, you got to admit that certain sub-field attract more funding because of factors that are outside the lab. Put yourself on the other side of the table and think like the person on the other side of the table. As much as this is learning, it is also a challenge for all of us.

In order to overcome this, the condition of conducting an R&D project in the industry has been introduced as a condition of associate professorship for academics. Thus, by working in the industry, in industrial production, academics actually see the speed of the industry and adapt themselves to it.
