Improve part by part of the solution and tell them the complexity you improved. 5. Discuss always what you're doing. Sometime, you might be overwhelmed to provide the best solution at first place. To crack the DSA round of any interview, one should have a solid grasp of common data structures such as arrays/vectors, linked lists, stacks, queues, sets, maps, trees, & graphs. It is important to be familiar with the use cases where these data structures are the best fit, the operations/methods, the time & space complexity, & their limitations. Similarly one should have a sound knowledge of different coding patterns such as the two-pointer approach, sliding window, etc & algorithms such as searching, sorting, tree traversals, DFS, BFS, etc, & how to apply them in different situations. Knowing Big O notation will help you to understand why one algorithm is better than the other & eventually help you to improve your solution to the best!

Asking clarifying questions to interviewer is very important and not make assumptions on your own. Interviewers often give hints for solving. Communicating with the interviewer is the key. While solving the problem, don't directly go for the optimized solution. First try and come up with the most naive bruteforce solution. Once you have a solution, then try and optimize it. This way atleast you have a solution and interviewer will come to know that you are capable of solving the problem at hand. Solving the problem is important doesn't matter at first whether your solution is optimized or not. Optimizing the solution is secondary. Once you have coded the sub-optimal solution, optimizing it later becomes comparatively easier.

Think Aloud: Verbalize your thought process as you analyze the problem. This shows the interviewer how you approach challenges and gives them opportunities to offer hints or guidance. Corner Cases: Don't just focus on the "happy path." Actively seek out edge cases and clarify how your solution should handle them. This demonstrates thoroughness and robustness. Alternative Approaches: Even if you think you have a solution, consider if there might be a more efficient or elegant way to solve it. This shows initiative and a willingness to go beyond the obvious. By taking the time to analyze the problem thoroughly, you demonstrate that you're not just a code writer but a critical thinker who can tackle complex challenges.

Analysing the problem statement:- 1.) Read and understand the problem statement. 2.) Try to know the type of problem i.e. searching, sorting etc. 3.) Try to relate it to similar questions asked to you in the past, if any. 4.) Sometimes example test cases can help to get the idea, so take a look at those too. 5.) Now you have relief from the quick solution. 6.) Implement your lightweight pseudocode. 7.) Dry run your pseudo code. 8.) Try to handle corner cases. 9.) Write the complete solution. Then you are ready to go.

This actually helps us as well during the interview to come up with algorithm to solve the problem. Like in one of my interview, the interviewer gave me a vague problem statement, and then I asked a few clarifying questions, a few edge cases and with that I was able to derive that it is a graph problem to identify if the graph is bipartite or not, and I was easily able to code the solution.

Apart from landing on the final solution, the other half which is writing the final code is very important. Please keep the following things in mind. 1. Write complete code i.e., unless asked, please write the main function as well just not the function. 2. Follow all the clean coding practices (a lot of free tutorials available on platforms such as YouTube). 3. Explain each part of the code as you write, and write comments if you can it makes the code more readable, and it makes sure the interviewer is engaged. Please improve typing speed (a lot of practicing sites available for blind typing), I have observed even senior devs writing code looking at the keyboard instead of the screen which is atrocious.

While writing code, one can follow one of the two approaches during the interview: 1 - Speaking out loud while writing the code. It means explaining the usability and parameters of the function and simultaneously implementing it on the IDE. 2 - First write the complete code and then explain your implementation in a structured manner such that a layman can understand it. One can follow any one of the above approach that suits better. To put forward the command on the language, one can even mention the libraries need to be imported. It expresses the clarity and usage of various libraries to the interviewer.

Drive the interview yourself. I also refer to this as breadcrumb strategy. Let me explain this with an example - Let's suppose the interviewer asked you the time complexity of binary search (searching algorithm of a sorted array). In this scenario, if you've a precise understanding behind the reason of the time complexity being O2(logn), then, rather than just answering O(logn) you can also mention the base of logarithm as 2. Most probably the next question will be the reason for the logarithmic base being 2. This way you can provide hints to the interviewer to ask the next question whose answers you already know. This not only consume the interviewer's time but also increases your chances of getting hired.

Here are some other things to keep in mind. 1. Always maintain positive vibes. 2. Try to listen to what the interviewer is saying very carefully. 3. For the technical round, don't try to optimize the solution right away. Start with brute force. Communicate with the interviewer. If you are stuck, thinking out loud will help you to get some hints from the interviewer. 4. Write clean code and maintainable. Variable names should be proper. Explain whatever you are writing. Be confident with the time and space complexity. 5. Whenever in doubt ask questions. Clear your doubts about work hours, projects, technology used and learning.

Visualization plays a crucial part while solving a Data Structures and Algorithm (DSA) problems. Visualization acts like a map, transforming abstract concepts into tangible, understandable visuals. It helps you see the flow of an algorithm, understand how data structures evolve, and identify patterns or errors that might be hidden in lines of code. For instance, visualizing a binary search tree can make it clear how elements are added or removed, and how the tree balances itself. In essence, visualization bridges the gap between theory and practice, making DSA not just a subject to study, but a tool to master. It turns complex problems into solvable puzzles, enhancing both learning and application.

During interviews sometimes we are so focused on finding solution that we ignore the interviewer. Interviewer is there to help us solve the question so we should keep them updated on what we are thinking. This is really important if question asked is hard because, we might go thinking in wrong direction and waste time, if interviewer is not aware of what we are thinking then they would not be able help us in time.

Sometimes for the same question, there can be multiple algorithms apply, and we tend to think 1 standard optimal algorithm and stop there. Like in one of the questions I saw, where I applied DP and solved the question, later when I discussed with friend I came to know it can be solved more optimised with Binary Search, so never stop yourself with first optimal solution, try to think if it can improved or optimised.
