Experience is King. The experience of enabling an organization through innovation while designing in security controls seamlessly is truly valuable. Notice, I said enabling. Reflect on how you have enabled the business in a secure fashion without having to say no. Experience of responding to an incident/breach along with the lessons learned is crucial. Certifications do not trump experience like this. Technology / Tools are only automation. Tools and technology only enable a security program. Policy, Procedure, and Controls set the direction for those tools to execute. Doing the mental work up front is the power, not the tool. Before your IT security interview, become a story master! Don't just list duties. Explain how your security work made a difference (e.g., "Implemented multi-factor authentication, reducing phishing attacks by 70%"). Recall specific projects! Did you identify a network vulnerability? Did you implement a new security protocol? Show you're current. Mention recent security conferences you attended or certifications you earned. By reflecting on these points, you'll turn your experiences into impactful stories that prove your IT security expertise.

Choose the common metrics to compare e.g. Failed phishing tests trending down compared to rising phishing attacks. To be able to show that you've adapted to external threats is much more impressive than how you fared against budget!
