Apart from the fact, that leading is different from beeing an expert, sometimes, you will not advance, because you are the most relevant (or even only) expert in the topic. "What will help then?", you might ask. There are multiple options here. One, to become really bad at your current job (which imho is not an option). Another option could be, to talk openly about, what happens, if you cannot advance due to your abilities (you would leave the company, which will leave them whith a similar problem, then promoting you, just, that they loose your knowledge for good) - in this case, you could become not only a leader, but also a coach for all those after you, which will in turn become better, that you (I would hope so, at least).
