Some contractual jobs may offer huge pay in a short term, however this can be addressed in two ways: - Create a section in your resume with a heading, "contracts based projects" or - Create a job description under work experiences and associate the work place to yourself while listing your achievements and job roles across all temporary works.

Networking is the key. It is always good to have someone who knows you and your work who can serve as a bridge between you and any potential opportunity suited for your profile. There are multiple network opportunities one may explore. These could be conferences, networking events like professional organizations, associations, societies etc., similarly online platforms like LinkedIn, ResearchGate, X etc. could also be very helpful in developing your network.

If you are engaged in temporary role, you will be aware of the end date for that engagement. Make sure that you start looking for other employment opportunities well before the end date. It is difficult to say how much earlier one should start looking but it will be ideal at the beginning of the last year of the contract. The hard limit is six months one must be applying left and right in his/her last six months of the engagement.

Personally I am against the temporary work in academia. The institutions get so exploitative in such scenarios that is toxic. I have seen many highly qualified people who taught for years but weren't given their due credit and honestly the financial reward was not worth the effort those guys put in. This toxic academic culture needs to change.
