Often times when someone is looking for a pay increase, they may approach their employer with "hey I've been here for X years now, surely it's time for a raise?" or "my bills have gone up and I need more money" all very reasonable but this will, more often that not, not fly with your employer. It's important to reflect on your contribution to the company. Outside of doing the day to day of your job, what have you done that has gone beyond? Maybe you helped out a colleague who was struggling, maybe you came up with the amazing idea or pitch that brought a client across the line or maybe, when everyone else was complaining about this or that, you brought a sprinkle of positivity to the team. Where have you really added value?
