In my experience, I have both worked at large corporations, startups, and freelanced. Low level skill development as a free lancer FAR OUTPACES development in either of the other realms. This refers to development in design, programming, product building, and latest industry trends. On the other hand, high level development and structured development lags as a freelancer. Startups and corporations will offer more opportunity to work on complex architectures, to develop high level communication and collaboration skills. Keep that in mind!
