Failures happen. A great example is this very feature on LI. Failure will always be a risk, however, I believe there are main two factors to navigate the failure. First, all stakeholders need to be well communicated during product/project progress, so It reflects the understanding of positive or negative progress, to facilitate proposing the corrective action on the right stage, however if failure happened later, it will present a lesson learn to next successful step. Second, I believe there is nothing called absolute failure, objective of all stakeholders is to take an action that expedite the next plan to transfer the failure to success.

Failures happen, I try to coach to the point that a unique opportunity presents itself to learn from. Although the lessons are hard to learn, these are the ones you will not forget and will make you a better professional making better products IF you have the ability to not become defensive.

If you have listened intently to the grievance it will be easier to explain to your team. Was it the first of many disgruntled customers or an one-off case? The extent will decide the priority required. However immediate redressal, without dilly-dallying will eventually save face and the day. Refund/compensate should be your priority.

Well, analysis of feedback is the most beautiful and critical step. We need to correlate the feedback/criticism to the laggings in the product and there by we need to understand the step where we can improve the process - This is called the Systematic Approach. Remember Analysing the feedback means a purely systematic approach.

Communication and right communication is most important in case of product failure criticism. Accept, apologise and act for next step with adoption of new way to not to fail should be the approach.

Clear communication is crucial for a product person as they play the key role between business and engineering team. Using more relatable words based on the type of audience (layperson, business team, engineering team, QA team etc.), while conveying an idea or requirement to them always helped me.

Failures will occur so accept them, analyze the cause and put appropriate corrective measures in place. Keep management in communication as you go through the process.

Prior to product failure, plans should be made for contingencies. And so while you iterate it must be in alignment with determined areas of fixing as well as the necessary attentiveness needed for success this time.

I have found one of the most challenging part of addressing feedback is the amount of change requests. I have used a reservation system and the amount of chatter on facebook groups, idea central in the product, direct feedback and more is overwhelming. Iterate quickly, but focus on the most time to value. Value can have different definitions to you as a product creator. (adoption growth, margin, foundations, etc).

Design Thinking approach/methodology can be very helpful in this. Quick proto to be tested, get feedback, do the tweaking, test again and repeat! Too long and too much analysis of failure may lead to even longer time to success (analysis paralysis!).

The story of explosive product growth is an alluring narrative, but it is not the norm. Most products flourish after a period of struggle and stagnation. Product founders need to be resilient enough to continually refine their business and operational models while being realistic in analyzing the outcomes.

While it's important to learn the lessons and move on. It is also pertinent to not to dampen the spirits with all the criticism and negative feedback that floats around post a failure. Improvise and adapt is the key. Failures do happen but thats not the end of the world. On the other hand overcoming failures and taking the appropriate corrective measures is what makes us as well our organisations successful.

Record the feedback, share it with all the concerned people/functions responsible in product developmemt, launch and quality and see that there is a 'common understanding', sans any ambiguity. Shatter any fixed biases. Invite new/creative ideas to further develop or modify the product without changing the purpose of it can be helpful.

I would probably deploy the L.E.A.P Learn,Evolve,Act & Promise Because once the phases are undergone the product too needs adaptation based on the Brand acceptance..So rather Stopping by Learning &Evolving..we need to get to the next level of Action and Promise the change ..this way the Product and Brand will live upto the expectations of the consumers ??

Review of the whole project is required, going over market research, proposals and planning to see what elements were overlooked or not included. Minutes of planning meetings re looked at, any suggestions or recommendations rejected that may have had a more positive outcome, were some proposals driven, overriding elements that could have been more successful. I found there are usually patterns to how we fail and succeed as individuals. By consciously identifying what behaviors worked for us in taking our work forward, in moving our teams in a good direction, we can learn from our failures and improve outcomes the next time around.
