For interns who are still in, or fresh out of college, please remember that not everything was taught in school. Each media production outfit has their own core services and internal culture which could be quite challenging and a bit disorienting for fresh recruits and interns. Survey the cultural terrain and adapt quickly. Familiarize yourself with the important skills demanded by the department or unit you've joined. Don't be timid. Don't be afraid to ask for clarifications if the tasks assigned you are not within your competency. Learn fast. It would be helpful if you could find a "work brother" or "work sister" who could help you navigate the day to day challenges in the workplace.

My best advice to those entering media production is to stay curious and to keep learning. Steep yourself in other art forms: film, audio, theatre, dance, literature, music, the visual arts, opera and architecture. You’ll be adding to your knowledge, broadening your sources of inspiration, and setting yourself up for future success. A lifelong curiosity about the creative process and how other artists in different fields have approached it will serve you well and lead to career longevity and adaptability.
