To skill up is the term, and here's my interpretation of it - before diving into scripting to prove to yourself that you've somewhat arrived, I highly recommend that you at least be aware of the foundational knowledge and they include (of course not limited to) some math: calculus, linear algebra, etc., a scripting language, and the domain knowledge. So, basically, you start out from your domain (you have to understand what you're trying to do), and with the necessary foundation, you "skillfully" level up. Remember Data Science is a marathon, so first look up for sample problems in your domain with solutions already, tweak the problems, adapt the solutions, and take it up from there. This will be a cycle with some tedium, so enjoy the ride.

Building a network involves connecting with people who share your professional interests and goals. Start by attending industry events, joining online forums, and participating in relevant social media groups. Engage in meaningful conversations, offer help where you can, and build relationships by staying in touch with your contacts. Networking can lead to valuable opportunities, insights, and support as you advance in your career.

A portfolio in Data Science acts as a powerful showcase of your skills and expertise. It highlights your ability to solve real-world problems through projects, demonstrating your proficiency with tools and techniques. By presenting a diverse range of completed projects, you can effectively illustrate your analytical capabilities, creativity, and practical experience, making your application stand out to potential employers or clients.

Real-world experience in Data Science involves applying your skills to solve actual problems rather than just theoretical exercises. This might include working on projects with real datasets, collaborating with industry professionals, or undertaking internships. It helps you understand how to handle messy data, make decisions with incomplete information, and apply techniques in practical scenarios. To ace interviews, start by thoroughly preparing: research the company and the role, and understand common interview questions related to the position. Practice your responses, focusing on clear and concise answers that highlight your skills and experience. Demonstrate your problem-solving abilities and provide specific examples from your past work. Show enthusiasm for the role and the company, and be ready to ask insightful questions. Finally, ensure you communicate effectively, listen carefully, and stay calm and confident throughout the interview.
