Easier than STAR is the PAR format for behavioral questions. * Problem/situation * Action * Result I've always felt that the situation and task were too similar, so simplifying to PAR makes more sense. Especially if you are under stress, the less there is to remember, the better. PAR is great when you ask an interviewer a question, and you can respond... Oh, that's similar to when I faced XYZ. I was able to ACTION, and was able to achieve ABC. You can use PAR to answer the behavioral questions and to engage the interviewer to tee up your own answers that highlight accomplishments. It's a very powerful and simple way to develop your work examples and interview question answers.

Instead of "Reflect Deeply," let's go with research and prepare extensively. The job description and your resume make up 90% of an interview's content. I coach my clients to develop examples of work experiences that match every line of the job description and categorize those examples into 3 - 5 main buckets of knowledge/work. An easy way to prepare is to cut and paste the JD into Word/GDocs and add a couple of spaces between each line. Then, go back and start cataloging work experiences that support what the JD asks for. Go back to your resume and expand on all of your accomplishments. This is just for you to prep. Lastly, paste the JD & resume into ChatGPT and ask it to create an interview guide for you w/ behavioral questions.

Your answers must focus on what the hiring manager and company want, not what you want, especially in the initial interviews. You will take care of yourself in the negotiation process. Keep things clear and concise, but also give enough detail so they understand why your example is a big deal. If you are switching industries, you can waste a lot of interview time explaining the company/product and lose precious time for your PAR/STAR examples and accomplishments.
