Ownership is the key thing to teach in the team that will build trust, even as leaders we can fail and you need to have a team able to support you through that also. So lead from the front and show them it is a safe environment and the trust will thrive.

Provide a secure and accepting atmosphere to promote candid dialogue. Stress the importance of different viewpoints and the ways that constructive criticism promotes individual and group development. Acknowledge and honor considerate input. Provide clear guidelines and examples of effective feedback. Remind the group on a regular basis of their common objective, which is everyone's success and ongoing progress.

Delegate responsibilities within the team and around the work place, especially ones that will stretch the responsible person, or ensure that they have to learn together or from another. Once the hazard is addressed, showcase how their feedback prevented potential accidents. This could involve featuring a "Safety Save of the Month" highlighting the issue and its resolution. By emphasising the real-world impact of their input, you show how their feedback directly contributes to a safer work environment. This reinforces the value of speaking up and motivates others to be vigilant about safety. It personalises safety and makes it a collaborative effort, not just following rules.

Maintain openness is essential, but let's take it a step further and promote collaborative safety discussions. Instead of simply allowing feedback, encourage open dialogue during safety meetings.
