For interns, the key thing is to assign them to a project that gives them a broad overview of QA as well as measurable goals. For example, QMS bloat over time. People add unnecessary work instructions and procedures that are about controlling the business and not the requirements of the QMS. Therefore, we create unwarranted audit and compliance risks. Assign an intern to exam one section of the QMS, review the regulations and guidance, and propose how to consolidate/remove/eliminate those procedures not required by the QMS. This would be a great introduction to systems and regulations as well as gaining an understanding of how departments define their "controls".
