Mentorship is essential and every placement must have a supervisor/manager to monitor your work. Mentors are your teachers in practice. The more comfortable you are with them, the more learning doors you open! Remember: not only do you need to build relationships with patients/service users but also staff and mentors who are also newly introduced to you. Just be yourself. Use your skills and develop a good working collaborative relationship built upon trust, compassion and transparency, just like you would for service users.

Placements have developed my insight into many fields of practice and this is still growing. The more professionals you meet the better! You never know when this will come in handy. Maybe you meet eachother in the future and work together. Already having a good relationship boosts collaboration and may enable work to be much easier, less stressful as you already know the people working with you.

During a social work internship, interns learn documentation skills through observing and assisting in the documentation process, receiving training sessions from supervisors, and practicing documenting client interactions under supervision. They also review sample documents to familiarize themselves with common formats and terminology. Through continuous practice and mentorship, interns develop proficiency in documentation, essential for effective social work practice.
