I follow a minimalist approach in this regard and highly recommend others to try it. So basically, the lesser things you have on your desk, the less distracting and uncluttered you will feel. So, adopt a minimalist approach for setting up your desk. Only things that are necessary for your day-to-day work should be allowed to stick around your work desk. Anything, that is not really required on regular basis, does not deserve a place at the desk. When it comes to concentration, 'less is more', indeed.

For me personally, the blessing of having a full remote position helped me create a flexible working program, for which I'm very grateful. But you have to be very careful in setting clear working intervals and making sure you don't blend work stuff with personal life. Don't start implementing a ML model or read a research paper while you cook your meal, you will fail both tasks :) And also, don't forget to close your laptop! I mistakenly thought I could deduce when my working hours would finish, but only until I set up some alarms on my phone I've been able to have a clear working hour schedule.

I prefer to have a goal based routine rathe than a time based. Like rather than planning to work from 9 am to 5 pm, I prefer to plan like "I need to get these 2 tasks done within 4 hours". Setting up task based deadlines, rather than unclear time based goals, in my opinion is more productive.

I was never a fan of using different tools unless necessary. Technical collaboration tools such as Git or Bitbucket are of course unavoidable and a must use. Other tools such as Slack or Microsoft chat is of great use too. There are other productivity tools that help us plan and manage our tasks better, one such tools is 'Notion'. Using tools certainly makes collaboration lot more easier and helps us carry our remote work with ease.
