In network security, the concept of defense in depth is akin to layering armor. Just as a knight wouldn't rely solely on a shield, you shouldn't depend on a single security measure. Employ a mix of firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS) to create layers of protection. Each layer should have different response strategies and policies to handle potential threats, ensuring that if one layer is compromised, others stand ready to defend.

a) Layered Defense : It is a smart move to layer various security measures for network security. A single security however stronger when it fails are falls will expose the network to vulnerabilities and attacks. A mix of firewalls, IPS/IDS with different response strategies and policies to handle potential intrusion or threat will go a longway in keeping threat actors at bay. b) Splitting the Network into segments: Segmenting the network and creating independent and individual security measures for each segment will decrease and restrict the attack surface. It is like damage control in a ship by isolating the damaged area and restricting the spread.
