Start from basics. The best way to learn is to experience and work in a startup so you get to learn a lot of things. Time management, team work, areas of digital marketing and what not. Try to be a team player and interact with people. This will help you to ask questions, and ask questions about their field.

I think everyone needs to start from scratch to understand the basics of social media marketing. I started my journey as an intern but was doing all the work of a social media manager role. But it helped me to understand client servicing, and how to talk and interact with them. Also learned the basics of designing which helped me to know how the posts should look before sending them out to the client. I also started upskilling at the same time to dive a bit deeper into digital marketing and learn all the tips and tricks on how to master it. Set goals and plan your posts. Share interesting and high-quality content. Engage with your audience and interact with them. Monitor your performance and adjust your strategy. Stay updated on social media trends. Try using paid ads with a small budget. Keep learning and experimenting.

Doing this activity may take your time, as it involves a lot of thinking, but the end product will make your future targeting process so much easier. If you are finding it hard or confusing to answer everything given above, you can experiment and change your buyer persona with time.

Engagement is the true essence of growing on social media. I was working for a client who just started out on LinkedIn with 0 followers. And I told her, let's just do engagement first before starting to post so that we get a good reach. And so I started engaging every single day with more than 30 people from her niche. The results? Her profile grew from 0 to 300 followers just from engagement. So, if you think, engagement is useless, re-read this and start practicing it. You'll definitely see results.

Focus more on creativity. There's so much AI, automation, copycats etc. out there - it's very difficult becoming creative. Try to think outside of the box, offer your audience something they have not experienced before and this will spark engagement (as long as it's relevant to your target customers). Build TRUST, FANS and RELATIONSHIPS around your community and brand.
