To me, as a manager and producer in the industry, the best way to make a name for yourself is to create content. Write a script that makes the festival circuit, maybe winning some screenplay contests. Make a short film that wins awards. That’s how I find you, and how you get the attention of managers, agents and producers!

This is an important one, as this industry evs and flows. You have to be able to get knocked down, learn from that, and get right back up kicking and screaming. Patience is also very important here, as nothing happens overnight in this business. The average time it takes to make a film is 3-5 years. I have one with A+ talent attached, and it’s taken 9 years thus far.

Read the trades (Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter) - learn who's buying, what genres are hot, and who the hot up and coming talent (writers, directors, actors) are. And, congratulate your friends/acquaintances/colleagues when they're mentioned in the trades. I do this every day! It goes a long way, and you might get some work from it.
