We don't want our change to break the project. So how can we manage and make this happen? We split it into modules and apply SOLID. But we all know that not all the projects we are involved in are well designed. So deal with it, try to understand OOP and apply those concept into action. By designing your software in self-contained modules, everything comes after that becomes easier.

Benefits: Maintainability: Modularity simplifies maintenance. When a bug is found or a feature needs enhancement, you can focus on the affected module without disrupting the entire system. Scalability: Adding new features becomes easier. You can extend the system by creating new modules or modifying existing ones. Reusability: Modular components can be reused across different projects. For example, a well-designed authentication module can be used in multiple applications. Testing: Isolated modules can be tested independently, ensuring better test coverage and easier debugging.

Modularity is important, but so is NOT over-designing your software when it isn't necessary. If you can complete your task with a 100 lines Python script, just do it and be done. Modularity should be considered in points of your program where you'd want to be able to change the implementation with ease, without affecting the other parts of the program. Another point for writing good independent modules is reusability - you can take a module that you wrote for one project, and use it in another project, with little to no adjustments. You can even turn that piece of code into a standalone library.

This ensures that new features or updates do not compromise existing functionalities. Secondly, adopt agile development practices to iteratively test and refine innovations, allowing for quick adjustments and improvements while minimizing risks. I've always been a believer in continuous, automated testing. To the extent possible and where reasonable. This begs the question, when is it not possible and when is it not reasonable? Unfortunately, this is a project and organization-dependent question. Automated tests that include dependent resources like databases or external APIs are important but can be time consuming. How often you run those is an important consideration. Also, any tests you write are code that you have to maintain so being intentional about testing is valuable. As a side note, I've become interested in the idea of test-driven development where the developer writes unit tests, feeds them to an AI, and the AI generates the code that passes the tests.

This approach allows you to control the release of innovations, minimizing risks and ensuring a smooth transition. In terms of agility, releases can be rolled out more frequently and with much less risk of crashes.

We are in love with GIT or other version control. Why do we do so? Because we have needs. We want to rollback, we want to have stable code that run and other code that use for other purpose... To make this happen, version control is a must. And please, yes please. also do version control for database. Liquibase is a great example, and after you learn about it, I think you will love it. If you do SaaS, database version control is a really big help.

Start by identifying a small, representative user group or environment for initial deployment. Utilize feature flags or toggles to selectively enable new features for this group while keeping them disabled for others. Monitor the performance and gather feedback from users in the rollout group to identify any issues or areas for improvement early on. Gradually expand the rollout to larger user segments or environments as confidence in stability and reliability increases. Implement automated monitoring and rollback mechanisms to quickly address any unforeseen issues during the rollout process.

Keep the deployment process consistent, this way you will be able to deploy new things without fear of breaking things that are already working and you will also have the benefit of rolling back if a problem occurs. Choose a deployment strategy that best suits your business, like Canary, Blue/Green, etc.

There should be proper staging even though Gradual roll out exists. This way bugs or errors can be detected in house and not by some selected users.
