I am a part-time bug hunter, who repeatedly fails to locate loopholes or bugs in numerous instances, has been through difficulties. Nonetheless, perseverance brings about success in life. The comprehension level of the technology is directly proportional to time invested on it; hence, the more you spend understanding it well, the easier it will be for you to see any weak links (penetration points). The major things are continuous striving and education . Let's take failures for learning chances and be dedicated to constant improvement in workmanship—that will make you prosper well as far as cyber security is concerned.

I keep a habits journal and stack the habits that help me hone my skills and I instinctively pick up challenges that others perhaps don’t know how to tackle (initially at least). Being proactive means taking ownership of your future. If you are in a management role this is even more crucial as others are dependent on your self awareness and that of others. Keep updates across your team. Hear from them. Give them the opportunity and airtime to share and update you! The results can be surprising.

Never stop reading and learning, as the world of cybersecurity is always changing and evolving. And it doesn't always have to be hitting the books. There are several great cybersecurity news websites and email newsletter out there, like TLDR InfoSec and 404media.co

The cybersecurity community is one of the most welcoming and supportive professional communities that I have been a part of. It's amazing how much people are willing to help you if you are respectful and act with humility. Even if one person can't help you, they may know someone that can and is more than happy. But it's also important to give back to the community as well. Found a great resource, share it.

I network around the world daily. It’s a function of having operations in many countries but it provides such amazing context and perspective. Treat your clients as your peers. They will thank you. They are human too and they can teach you a thing or too if you let that flourish. It’s amazing what happens. This inherent networking or what we call “coffee time” with colleagues and clients quickly shapes you as a cyber security professional. In fact I heard it called recently a profession. Perhaps I have had my ears closed of late but I realised that great pride can be taken in calling it that. And this starts with your best encyclopaedia and knowledge base that beats AI hands down. Your friends and clients and colleagues. Your network!

Your next big opportunity may be just one connection away. Network effectively, stay curious, and keep an open mind. Understanding the challenges others face not only broadens your perspective but also fosters empathy, making you a more effective leader. Surround yourself with constructive and positive people who encourage and support you in tough times. And when life is good, let them challenge you to pursue even bigger goals. Remember, it's quality over quantity in both relationships and opportunities.

It is not always about how much you know, but who you know. Guys! Network is the key. Networking is vital for maintaining a positive outlook and overcoming setbacks in your cybersecurity career. By connecting with peers and industry experts, you gain support, encouragement, and practical advice during challenging times. Sharing experiences and learning from others helps you navigate obstacles more effectively. A strong network fosters resilience, opens doors to new opportunities, and ensures continuous growth and positivity in your career.

There is a real danger in cyber given it’s so vast and sits in many time zones of burn out. No one is immune and it can sneak up. But it can be balanced with your community too and your peers that give you energy; cognitive, intellectual and emotional. Actively work on your equilibrium but also it’s healthy to have high standards and push yourself to tackle hard things. But also recognise things get tiring. I personally balance the long hours with eating very well, running in between client meetings and spending time with my network and community. But it takes active work to achieve this balance and perhaps it’s ok to admit I have had this balance tipped in the wrong direction for many years. But that’s also where great endeavour sits!

En intégrant des habitudes de vie saines et en valorisant le temps passé en dehors du travail, vous établissez un fondement solide pour une carrière durable et épanouissante en cybersécurité, mais pas uniquement.

Set high goals that may seem unachievable at first. Then, reverse engineer them into annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly objectives. Stay committed and focused on each step along the way. By breaking down big goals into smaller, actionable tasks, you'll pave the path to success.

This is vital in our cyber. You must always be looking at the next thing, next accomplishment, learning the next skill. IT is a rapidly developing field that requires goals to be set to keep you on the right track. For the professionals that I have worked with that do not set goals, I see their professional development stuck along with their careers.

I think it's important when setting goals to set them like a pathway. Absolutely have that high level goal, but it's also important to plan out the steps to get there.

Relax and check if you have achieved your goals . The ones you weren’t able to achieve. Why didn’t you achieve them. Then Address it and it would help you have a good pathway in cybersecurity

Think of failure as an opportunity to learn. Mistakes are the best teachers. If you truly analyze what went wrong, you will find ways to mitigate whatever prevented your success so that you don't make the same mistake(s) again. Don't beat yourself up. Give yourself some slack - accept and learn, don't blame yourself of others for your failure. No matter the mistake, focusing on blame only hinders progress. Take the time to reflect, refocus, and move forward.

Everyone experiences setbacks. Remember that experiencing setbacks does not make you a failure. Learn from the setbacks and move on to the next big thing.

One valuable trait I gained from the Cybergirls fellowship is RESILIENCE. I believe that in order to maintain a positive outlook, you must cultivate resilience, learn from failures, and celebrate your small victories. Also, seek mentors for guidance and support systems. Do well to practice self-care to manage the stress and maintain a work-life balance. Take breaks when necessary. Lastly, stay focused on your long-term goals and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Cheers!
