A great exercise is break into teams and do a press release exercise for the front page of a newspaper in ?1,2 or 3 years time, sharing what the outcome would look like if you are successful at delivering your vision. It helps the team really think through their contribution and build excitement. Great to review in half way through and see if on track or anything needs to change

The logical way is to define collaboration goals and have teams work towards them. However, in practice, this is difficult as setting easy targets make them inconsequential and conversely, high targets make them unrealistic and not meaningful. The first step must be to establish understanding of each other’s businesses and develop meaningful programs to build knowledge and trust. With this in place, it then becomes easier to set meaningful targets which are impactful for all.

I believe that in order for trust to be present one must be able to demonstrate they can be trusted as an individual and/or as part of a team. The basic premise of earning trust is that you are understood to be, and recognized as someone who respects all opinions, all levels of competence and that you foster openness and inclusion that leads to greater success of the individual and the collective team members.

Building trust is a key component of success. Consistently, lead by example. Keep open dialogue as you define goals and monitor its progress. Be part of the problem and solution.

Trust is one of the outcomes from a team that is psychologically safe. The ability to be open, vulnerable, and working in an environment of trust is not an elusive or magic formula. Having a sense of being included, being safe to learn and make mistakes, to bring authentic experiences and ideas and have them valued, plus knowing you are safe to challenge without it turning into a career limiting incident all build the trust in a team.

Recognition for each team member is paramount. Each team member is a "moving piece" in any business model. From the janitor that cleans our floors and provides a clean, warm welcome for new clients, to the sales person that closes the deal, we move as one unit. If one part of our machine is fractured the entire machine breaks. People perform because they want to, not because they have to. Encourage them to leverage their unique skills and perspectives to tackle challenges creatively. Ultimately autonomy across the organization for individuals and teams enables the greatest Agility & Performance. However the team must have developed through the phases to a level of Maturity (6 out of 7) which assures the foundation practices, competencies and behaviours are in place. One thing, I have found helpful for teams that have some longevity is to encourage engagement no matter how small. An example as a leader growing leaders is to source content that add values to their development and start a verbal discussion by asking them to contribute to the list.
