The basic idea behind storytelling is that humans are naturally drawn to stories. We have been telling and listening to stories since ancient times, and they have a unique ability to captivate our attention, evoke emotions, and make information more memorable. By leveraging this innate human response, storytelling aims to make a lasting impact on the audience and influence their perceptions and actions. But before that, you need to define your objective, what you want to achieve, and the message you want to convey in your story. This is important to ensure the impact of your story reaches your goal.

In the context of sales and marketing, story telling involves crafting narratives that resonate with the target audience and address their needs, desires, or pain points. The story typically revolves around a central character or protagonist who encounters a problem or challenge and finds a solution or achieves a desirable outcome by using the product or idea being sold. This narrative structure helps create a relatable and compelling experience for the audience, so the story will make a lasting impact on the audience and influence their perceptions and actions.

I've found effective stories have five major elements: 1.) Plot - I call this the thing that's happening. It's the blueprint, it's the movie trailer laying out the story. 2.) Setting - where this is all taking place. 3.) Characters - this is where things get interesting. You're going to be a better storyteller when you are the main character in your stories. And by you, this can mean you and your products, you and your services, and you and your team. 4.) Conflict - The clash; the problem; the climax. This can have varying degrees of hype or intensity. You can be at war with your two sets of thoughts. 5.) Resolution - how the conflict is solved and the aftermath. Wrap your data, specs, stats, and sweet pie charts in a story to shine.

Once upon a time, a man named Aristotle defined persuasion. He said it had three elements: Ethos - credibility (of a speaker and their content) Pathos - human emotion Logos - logic He had a hypothesis about one of the three elements. He believed if you removed one particular element, persuasion would be impossible. He was correct. If you remove pathos - human emotion - from your presentations, you can't actually persuade your listeners. This fact shows up in your day to day buying habits, which are mainly done on a subconscious level of thinking connected to, you guessed it, emotion. Effectively told stories are the easiest and fastest way to get your audience on the emotion train headed to persuasion land.

It’s true storytelling and analogies make your presentation more understandable. You can make it memorable as well by visualizing your storytelling. Real life examples will make the audience’s experience more productive, would help them to implement it to their business with ease.
