To put this into perspective, what are you trying to achieve? You are trying to learn something - about a problem, project status, team member difficulty or something else important. You will also make the speaker feel included and hopefully improve their commitment. If you listen with the intention of talking you will achieve none of these, but might be able to inflate your ego a little.
