To incorporate active listening into your communication as an AR professional, it's important to first understand the context in which you're operating. Remember AR is Augmented Reality. To augment is to improve. You need to understand that fundamental so that you can communicate it with your client. Help them define an experience that improves upon reality, without obscuring it. When you engage, ensure that you work to draw out their understanding of the core concept. Identify how from their perspective they would improve upon reality.

2 Active Listening

Active listening in AR requires more than just hearing words; it involves understanding the underlying concepts and emotions. Pay close attention to what is being said, and also to what is left unsaid. This means being fully present during discussions, asking clarifying questions , and reflecting back what you've heard to confirm your understanding. By doing so, you ensure that your AR projects align with the stakeholders' visions and that any technical limitations or possibilities are communicated clearly.

XR is a rapid industry. To support rapidity it is important to get things right in as few tries as possible. This means when recieving a brief, whether directly from a client, or internally, you must understand it as fully as possible. Engage, don't hesitate to ask questions and take notes. Your understanding of a brief can and likely will evolve as it unfoldds. Revisit areas that your feel have been given additional context. Activley feedback as the brief is given. Speak on technolgoical viability, user experience concerns. Explore the brief to it's fullest and think of each clarification as an elimination of an unnecessary iteration in the development process.

Asking thoughtful questions is a key part of active listening. In the context of AR, where user experience and technical constraints are paramount, your questions should aim to uncover as much detail as possible about the end-users' needs and the environmental context of the AR application. Often an overlooked aspect of communication, especially in a digital industry. There are many non-verbal queues and like it or not, we project them and we also recieve and interpret them. When engaging with others you must show you're engaged. When listening, we can share our opinions without interrupting with just our expression. Be concious of that and utilise it as another tool of your communications. Show your approval, excitiment, thoughtfulness and even at times negative responses with facial expressions and gestures. Communicating without disturbing the flow of conversation. Prompting further communcation in response.
