In my experience as a self-employed individual for the past 6 years, these three things have been a big help: 1) Taking assessments to understand what adds to/drains my energy and how I'm naturally wired to make decisions. The Kolbe-A and DISC have been particularly helpful in showing where I am vulnerable to indecision and what drains my decision-making energy. 2) Journaling when I am stuck on a decision. This has helped identify the root cause behind some of my decision-making struggles, e.g., why I was reluctant to let go of the monthly service I wasn't using. 3) Identifying non-negotiable behaviors based on my core values, e.g., getting regular exercise. This simplifies decision-making and makes it easier to act with integrity.

Treat your self-employment goals the same as you would in a full-time role! I'm a fan of using quarterly Rocks--basically 90 day SMART goals or key priorities. As my CEO used to say "What's the best way to hit a three-year plan? Stringing together three successful one-year plans." And the same is true of a year--stringing together four successful quarterly plans. The next step is crucial--translate these goals to milestones and make them time-bound. Give yourself your own "quarterly review" to keep yourself honest.

And also to consider what is the risk of doing nothing, because inaction, is a decision in itself. And when others dont make a decision that can often cause consequences they have not considered.

Everyone is going to have a different perspective on the quality of the decision that you made. Sure, you can ask a coach, a mentor, a co-worker, or a friend, but they aren't going to be able to weigh the gravitas of your decision the same way that you can. The onus is on you to create a framework that enables you to objectively work through an analysis of your decision quality. Assess: - the criteria for good vs. bad decision - the process you followed to make it - why you concluded it was best to do A vs. B - how the quality of your decisions has changed over time

Not only does this give you insight, it is both a form of motivation AND accountability. And staying motivated and holding yourself accountable are both challenging as a self-employed individual.
