This is absolutely about a shift in perspective and learning mindset habits to do this can prevent a lot of pain and suffering. I believe setbacks are merely ‘detours’ in the right direction. It’s a sign to take stock, review, and connect in with the facts but also your intuition on the situation. Often, we make decisions from a place of fear or ego, perhaps these decisions led us to a setback. It’s time for a pause and to consider the lessons here. Conversely, making decisions and leading with a growth mindset (considering the possibilities, taking a ever evolving learning approach) is key. Then laying that approach with our intuition about a situation will lead us in the direction of the highest good, and most successful outcomes.

Encouraging clients to embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth may risk oversimplifying the complex emotional and psychological impact of failure. This perspective might inadvertently minimize the individual's pain and struggle, treating setbacks as mere stepping stones rather than deeply human experiences. True transformation requires not just a shift in perspective but also a compassionate understanding of the multifaceted nature of failure, acknowledging the emotional depth and providing holistic support that respects the individual's journey beyond the binary of success and failure.

Why do we call them setbacks and failures? Are we objective enough, or is the bar set too high, causing us to undervalue our efforts and results? I often hear from my clients that if a project isn't perfect, it's a setback. However, we need to shift from labeling results as success or failure to viewing them as opportunities to gain experience and test hypotheses. This approach reduces pressure and increase curiosity. Often, business owners merge their identity with their product and business. When something doesn't work, it feels personal. But business is business, and a project is just a project. Success isn't about creating just one great hypothesis or one excellent project. It's about trying again and again to find the best one.

Reframe failure as Learnings. Everything should be treated as "data input". Whether a project goes well or poorly, it doesn't matter. Analyze the results and learn for the future. Innovation is not smooth sailing.

Setbacks are not failures they are a way to learn and grow. Turning it into a positive and changing your mindset into thinking ok things aren't going the way I planned. how can I overcome this and improve on my situation?

This method assumes that meticulous dissection of past mistakes can preempt future ones, potentially instilling a fear of failure and an overemphasis on control. True growth requires balancing analytical scrutiny with emotional resilience, embracing the unpredictable nature of life, and recognizing that not all lessons are found through dissection but through lived experience and acceptance.

In my view, mistakes are essential elements that contribute to self-development and authentic living. Mistakes provide opportunities to explore and understand fundamental personal values and choices, which ultimately leads to a more responsible approach to one's own life and the world. The so-called "mistakes" are not seen as negative markers, but as important moments that contribute to self-awareness and the development of a deeper relationship with one's own existence. By consciously experiencing and analyzing these moments, it becomes possible to lead a life that is characterized by inner approval and authentic commitment. Coaches should aim to empower clients to formulate their own solutions and insights. Additionally, recognizing and constructively using emotions can transform them from perceived obstacles to valuable tools for personal and professional development. Emotions provide key insights into personal values, aiding in deeper self-awareness and decision-making skills under pressure. This approach not only promotes resilience but also antifragility, enabling individuals to not just recover from setbacks but to leverage them for substantial growth and self-improvement.

In every business we encounter ups and downs! Its natural. If you can reinstate resilience in your client this will make them stronger to persevere through the bad times and thrive through the good times.

The first thing I want to mention is that the topic of emotions in business is often considered taboo. Our emotions are like messages from our body and brain, natural reactions to what's happening around us. We can't just turn off our emotions and feelings, especially when we face setbacks. Emotions help us understand ourselves and the world. I believe that the first step in building resilience is to listen to and analyze our emotions. What emotions and feelings are related to failure? Is it about looking foolish, losing respect, or fearing that someone important to us will laugh at us? When we consciously address these questions and find answers, we can build resilience.

Firstly you need to validate emotions - they cannot be dismissed because they are not yours.Being emotional doesn't mean someone cannot move on , what it means is they need to articulate how they are feeling and work through that or even just sit with it - both of which are ok.Resilience is around maintaining the calm in a storm, bouncing back after the turmoil, finding the road when you have gone off road - these things are skills that can be practiced with a coach and can be learnt well before this skill is needed to be flexed. The biggest misconception people make is working on resilience when the s&%t hits the fan - it is a bit like rushing around for insurance after your car hits the fence - resilience training is your self insurance.

It's important to envision future goals, considering what the ideal state would be in 5 years. Work backward from there: identify what needs improvement today to get closer to that goal. Make your plan time-bound by specifying when, where, and how these improvements will be made. Assess your strengths and opportunities to leverage them for realizing the ultimate goal. 5-Year Goal: 1. Achievement 1 based on Strength/Opportunity: - Action Points: (steps to achieve the goal) - Timeline: (when to complete each action point)

Setting goals starts with answering: What do I really want for myself? How do I see my business in 3-5 years? Do I want to build a unicorn? Do I want to sell my business in the future? These questions aren't always easy to answer, but they are essential. Once you have these answers, you can create shorter-term goals. What should I achieve in 1 year to meet my 3-year goal? Then ask the same question for 6 months, 3 months, and 1 month. The final question is: What should I do next week to achieve the 1-month goal? This approach allows you to create a clear roadmap and see how your current activities impact your long-term goals. It's also important to review your goals regularly.

starts with where am I and then where do I want to be ? what is in the middle in the plan which is based on a number of things in terms of possibilities, resources, path to get there , additional support required etc etc. A coach supports their client through working through these elements and in my experience the starting point is one that requires a decent time investment as articulating what is really going on , and gaining clarity is not a quick exercise as it sets the tone for the success to reach your point B.

Be in the now to create the future. Understand goals are great. However, most set small goals. Have you ever considered setting impossible goals? In order to do this, yes work with 1 and 5 years but also look at 10 years. Who do you want to become in the next 10 years? How old will you be? If someone was to call a movie name of your life in the next 10 years, what would you love it to be? Reverse engineering is always powerful but split into categories. One method I’ve found really useful is referenced from Donald’s Miller ‘Hero on a Mission’ when he encourages you to write your vision and your eulogy. Reviewing and reading this daily is the most powerful thing.

First we need to identify our intrinsic motivation towards our goal. We can use Wheel Of Life(WOL) to assess what we consider important in our life’s before setting any goals. According to Paul j Meyer, the WOL is a tools assesses six key areas; career, financial, personal growth health, relationship and recreation. For example; if we prioritise relationship, to increase our chances of success, we could leverage our social connection to advance our career. This aligns with what will drives us internally towards our goal.

One thing I’ve found helpful that entices change is focusing on the who (identity) rather than the how (information). In transforming your own values and understanding specifically what you want to achieve by being clear on who you need to become is the foundation to construct a simple plan. Too much information in a plan confuses and overwhelms the individual allowing creative space to take action transcends any result they’ve been used too.
