Here's how you can harness creativity to solve problems in the healthcare industry.

Multiple Perspectives: Including people from various backgrounds and disciplines leads to a wider range of ideas and approaches to complex healthcare challenges. Identifying Biases: Diverse teams are better at recognizing and mitigating biases that can creep into data analysis, research design, and treatment development. Culturally Competent Solutions: A diverse team can design solutions that cater to the needs of a multicultural population, ensuring inclusivity and effectiveness.

Diversity is essential because it enriches our thinking and helps us move beyond one-size-fits-all solutions. When we bring together people with different backgrounds and perspectives, we can come up with more creative and effective ideas. This is especially important in healthcare, where considering diverse viewpoints leads to better and more inclusive care. Different groups bring unique insights to the table, which can greatly influence our approach to healthcare. These different perspectives inspire innovation and enhance our ability to solve problems. By embracing diversity, we tap into a wider range of ideas, which ultimately results in more thorough and effective healthcare solutions.

Questioning norms is vital to exploring new ways of approaching health issues - and even solving them. However there is great pressure to stay inside the lines and adhere to what is "established". In my own work with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) I have had to break out of conventional thinking and practices that were not providing the results I was seeking. This allowed me to bring a new approach to solve long-term digestive health issues that is actually working with my coaching clients. Although IBS is said to be "incurable" on many authority websites. I am convinced that questioning norms, becoming more open and flexible, and being allowed and encouraged to experiment are essential keys to finding new healthcare solutions.

For instance, we redesigned our team meeting room to include natural light, comfortable seating, and whiteboards for brainstorming. This space quickly became a hub for innovative thinking. Another example is setting up a "wellness corner" with plants and soft music where staff can relax and recharge, reducing stress and enhancing creative problem-solving.

As a neurosurgeon, I harness creativity by- 1. Looking for opportunities to collaborate 2. Using resources focused on amalgamated concepts, treatment of brain tumours, etc. 3. Open communication - I always welcome thoughts from fellow consultants and leaders.
