I don't really agree, the border between developers and product managers shouldn't be that precise: good ideas can come from both sides! In my opinion, a developer who understand a product is more motivated to implement new feature as he understand their need/future use. And as he understand that, like any stakeholder he can have new ideas or propositions to enhance the product. Simple example: the developer can see that some recurring errors are happening (time out etc) in some use cases and can discuss it with the PM so the PM is aware and can prioritize it.

Based on my experience, I can say that having clear roles with defined functions is crucial, as it delineates each person's scope of action. Proper planning would be the next step, which involves setting realistic goals with coherent deadlines and an adequate description of what is being sought. Of course, none of this will work without proper communication, which should consist of smooth, bidirectional interactions, constant feedback, and alignment with the same objective.

To deliver a successful product from ideation to adoption. It’s important along with PM and developers all contributing members involved in the product success understand and align to the common SMART goal. It’s absolutely important the goal meets the SMART criteria which often gets missed, because the definition of successful outcomes can mean different for each role.

Establish shared goals that align with the overall project objectives. Both teams should work together to define what success looks like, whether it's meeting a release date, achieving a performance benchmark, or implementing specific features. Shared goals foster a sense of unity and purpose.

One thing which I have experienced is that it is so important that the whole team can visualise the product and keep customers in mind when defining and prioritising goals and objectives.

Here one point is very important that developers should have a certain level of comfort in communicating with PMs and also vice versa that the PM should communicate with empathy.

You spent days/weeks delivering a large module in the mobile app. The business case was most likely put forward by the product manager, design lead or someone in the leadership chain. Ask them to share data on how the feature contributed to the company's success, what metric it improved etc. This will boost your motivation 100x to contribute to company success and will ensure product managers are discussing impact with engineering teams regularly.
