Algunas estrategias para fomentar la confianza pueden ser promover una comunicación abierta entre el grupo, así los empleados podrán expresar sus ideas y preocupaciones. Establecer unos objetivos claros para que los empleados sepan lo que se espera de ellos, tanto individual como colectivamente y ofrecer oportunidades de crecimiento. En mi opinión, cuando se trabaja dónde se te valora, te sientes bien y hay confianza, van saliendo ideas de mejora para que la empresa vaya creciendo y las tareas puedan ser más amenas. Aunque seas excelente en lo que haces, si el entorno laboral es negativo, las ideas y los esfuerzos difícilmente prosperarán

Challenge the norm with thoughtfulness and kindness to build trust. I remember supplying a Creative Director of UX with some thoughts that I put together in the form of a story. Since my title was "operations," I thought for a split second, "Who am I to challenge or suggest anything to someone as decorated as this person?" My experience with the Creative Director of UX taught me the value of diverse perspectives. Our conversation not only deepened our trust but also led to a more frequent exchange of ideas. It reinforced the idea that all ideas, regardless of the source, are welcome and can contribute to our collective success. Be judicious of when to challenge, but this is an area where it can lead to positive outcomes with trust.

Los roles bien definidos son esenciales para el éxito de cualquier empresa, proporcionan claridad, dirección y un sentido de orden necesario para tener una buena estructura y un buen funcionamiento, minimizando los riesgos. Hay que definir quién es el responsable de cada tarea para que la coordinación sea inmejorable, así se evitarán confusiones sobre quién debe hacer cada función y se fortalecerá las responsabilidades, optimizando el trabajo. Según mi experiencia, la ausencia de roles definidos conduce a una atmósfera de confusión, donde los empleados pueden sentirse desorientados, sin una dirección clara sobre sus tareas o a quién dirigirse, pudiendo ocasionar trabajo descoordinado.

Diversity of functions is a given in a cross-functional team, but I always also try to bring in diversity of points of views. I sometimes invite skepticals to the project, so we are kept in check by a skeptical. If I can, I do as a diverse team as I can and try to make sure that everyone is heard and has a fair share of voice.

Keeping your eyes wide open is key, because it is a given that new challenges and opportunities will pop up. Cross-functional teams are great for coping with changes. Especially, you must keep an eye on things that do not make sense, because they mean that your framework of reference might not longer be valid. Thus, it is an indicator of a blind spot.

To encourage agility, create a culture of continuous learning and adaptability. Encourage team members to embrace change and be open to new ideas and perspectives. Provide opportunities for cross-training and skill development to enhance flexibility and readiness for change. Additionally, empower teams to experiment with new approaches and adapt to feedback.

I've found establishing clear success metrics for collaborative efforts in strategy innovation is helpful. While collaboration is critical, it's essential to recognise and value individual contributions. Your unique ideas and efforts are what make our team successful. Let's not let the brilliance of individuals get lost in the team's success. So, set both team and individual metrics. Gamify the process as much as possible. A simple idea might be to employ a badge and leaderboard system that successfully honours innovative ideas and notches up wins for the team for other KPIs.

Work with the group to set measures of success. This will not only ensure you all work towards the same goals, but give a clear expectation. It's not always easy, but always worthwhile.

In my 7+ years of career leading cross-functional teams, the most important thing that I have learned over these past years is to explain: A) The strategic intent of the project, and B) The final outcome that the team will achieve by the end of the project completion at the start of the project kick-off. Doing this not only helps all the cross-functional team members understand objectives and their roles but also motivates them to achieve the goal as a single unit.

One way to encourage innovation is by an innovation tournament, a technique developed by Wharton Professors Christian Terwiesch and Karl T. Ulrich. It is very useful methodology in this regard. I have used it in the past and I highly recommend it.
