If it's a smaller/start-up organization, I've been inclined to consider equity, shares, etc., and other non-traditional benefits as a part of the package. If it's a larger/established organization, the package would differ.

Equity is a great incentive but ensure that you educate first time equity beneficiaries thoroughly. Individuals need to know the estimated value, likelihood of receiving the reward and any other considerations clearly. Software platforms now exist to make equity awarding and management transparent and clear.

I personally I am a lover of equity share to replace salary. This is because I have discovered that most startups face the issue of paying salary. Some don't even want to start because of unknown fear yet they need more hands on deck to enhance the growth of the company. In such situation when I know they can't pay my money, I propose equity share but before doing that, it is important to reach a mutual agreement about it and advocate for transparency and recognition as shareholders of the company. Don't forget to have a legal and written agreement to fall back on should in case of misunderstanding and sometimes the greedy nature of some business owners to quickly forget your contributions and reluctant to do the needful when balanced.

Pero no olvides entender cómo funciona el plan de adquisición de derechos y la posible dilución de acciones antes de acordar algo. También las estructuras de bonificación pueden ser interesantes, ya que incentivaran tu rendimiento. Además, negociar oportunidades que promuevan tu crecimiento profesional siempre es una opción a considerar.

Personalmente, creo que en el mundo en el que vivimos, el crecimiento profesional es indispensable, y que tu empresa te pueda brindar la posibilidad de elegir hacia dónde crecer y ayudarte a conseguirlo a través de formación/charlas/summits…, me parece una manera magnífica de seguir creciendo en la empresa. Esto sin duda, ayuda a sentirte cómodo, a tener una conversación fluida y de confianza con otros departamentos y en el caso de ir todo un departamento a hacer pi?a.

After COVID, time and place flexibility for work has gained more importance. But this will only work for some people. If you have kids or have other life responsibilities which may need you to be flexible with your time, then great...as long as you can be efficient with a remote work culture (which not all orgs get right). If you are the kind of person who wishes to go to an office, meet a team in person and jam with them to solve problems, extra flexibility may not mean much to you.

Por mi experiencia, la flexibilidad horaria/laboral es sin lugar a dudas la condición más cotizada a la hora de entrar a una empresa a trabajar. Priorizamos mucho más, tener un horario flexible que podamos adaptar a nuestras necesidades y gustos personales a ganar más dinero. Nos gusta trabajar y nos gusta mucho lo que hacemos, pero también nos encanta poder tener tiempo por las tardes cuando aún hay luz y tener tiempo para otras muchas cosas que con un horario de oficina presencial no podríamos.

Since the environment now allows us as business owners and leaders to actually leverage and weight the multiple factors contributing to “compensation”, if you actually walk the path, you will notice even during the design stages that it becomes an actual strategic advantage. The way to go about it is to first ask yourself and then define “compensation”. Then an interesting process starts that some of it can become mathematical in nature, when you actually craft a model that can be highly effective to drive the behaviors maximizing compensation. That requires a level of maturity in both enterprise processes and people but once established it can make a difference.
