I am 60 - each day I blog, write gram posts, deliver livestreams on YouTube, comment and engage in policy debates - but most of all - I just enjoy online teaching and supporting students. 99% of the management language in this area is pure BS - it always has been and that won't change. You don't have to be at the cutting-edge to make a difference.

Given the stage of my career, would strongly opt for a MIND - Mapping the courses with the skills, Immersion, New Assignments and Demonstration Credentials - approach to embrace the e-learning. The first is to assess the desired skills and map those skills with the available, best-in-class, credible e-learning courses that offer rigor and relevance. The next is to immerse newly acquired skills with a few additonal readings and conversations with industry experts. The third step is to seek out small assignments, involving myself with a team executing the newly acquired skill with definitive contributions. Most importantly, gather all the relevant demonstrative credentials that can underwrite new e-learning skill set with endorsements

E-learning is not necessarily a better learning method than others, but it is generally more accessible for most. You are never too old to learn - I'm 55 and a co-founder of a very successful e-learning business. But I'm still learning, even though I'm super busy every day. For example, I'm doing an e-learning course on strategic AI enablement through UCCS because I want to learn more on a critically important topic for my industry, and I want to network with other like-minded professionals who have the same interest so we can all learn and improve together. 20 years ago, that wasn't possible. Today it is. I say - embrace the change, and use it to your advantage.

Few older people still working resist learning new things, especially when online courses can offer you multiple options to understand skills. From podcasts, audiobooks, videos, and zoom meetings, almost every has been updated by elearning in some form. This myth that older adults don’t understand or want to learn more in a flexible manner is just not true. More and more, from medical advice to books clubs- the rise of digital technology makes it easier and much more possible to learn and understand how to do things. My 90+ year old neighbor taught me how to use Facebook live, shared YouTube videos on how to fix a sink, and a podcast on explaining personal Branding. And there’s way more mature people doing the same thing everyday day.

Current Era is the modern days of Tech, everything here changes in a fraction of seconds, So to keep you fit for the market you should adapt to these changes and should update yourself with latest Future ready skills. Here learning is not a skill but to know what to learn which is relevant/as per job requirements is the skill. e-learning helps in cutting the traditional learning techniques and helps the organizations and its resources to keep them market fit and learn new skills.

In my experience, the drive and culture of constantly having to adapt to the latest iteration of e-learning technology is largely futile. Find technologies that work for you - and they don't all have to be digital. Don't let yourself feel inadequate or behind others who flit from one software or AI program to another. Employers value people who live and breathe beyond the narrow technical side of digital technologies - allow your personality to shine beyond the screen.

Updating skills is vital to be successful in elearning. That said, I reject the idea that traditional should be written off. As a fan of hybrid, I’m alll about combining the digital with the physical. I’m a firm believer that the two can coexist. All that said, there are many tools out there and alot of these tools actually have free webinars as well as free courses that one may take and earn certificates. It’s also a great idea to test multiple tools out.

Skills are the new currency of personal and organizational 'wealth'. You, or your organization are only as good (read as 'effective', 'agile' etc) as your skills-base. Think of skills as a currency and top up your bank account by refining existing, or developing new skills using e-learning. If it were me, I'd look at my personal interests and motivations, and align them with the needs of the organization I work for, or want to work for. I'd choose programs that align to my motivations + development opportunities and focus on those. For example, I've been in the e-learning industry for 25+ years, but I'm attending online courses through UCCS on strategic AI enablement so I can both learn and contribute to an area of interest and demand.

Keep in mind that many digital technologies - online quizzing comes to mind - have been backed by aggressive private equity funds that don't have the first idea about using e-learning to build content and community. They want a quick return on their speculative investment. Whereas real teachers - in it for the long-haul - want to trial, test and perhaps embrace e-learning to help their students. Don't get sucked into commercial arguments with investors who couldn't teach to save their lives.

One of the most insidious traps you can fall into is the 'Commonly Held Misconceptions' trap. It's one where you, and most around you, believe what you've been taught is true. But it's not. And people die, planes fall out of the sky etc. as a result. So, never be afraid to learn, and never be afraid to question. In my experience, I have learned that one size doesn't fit for all in E-Learning. Everyone grasps topics and knowledge in their own different ways. Hence, personalised learning goes a long way. For instance, for audio learners, podcasts and voiceovers would work amazingly while visual learmers would look for intriguing graphics and video clips. I used the run an e-learning content development company in Australia. The going rate was around $30K per hour of developed content. It has changed since then, but traditional development costs are still a blocker for many programs. The game changer - AI.
