The most important learning I can offer in a nutshell is: "Manage your boss !!" It summarizes all good single element, but you have to take ownership and dedication to manage your boss in professionally supporting him/her in all relevant aspects.

Help your boss by anticipating their needs and offering support. Build a personal connection by showing interest in them as a person, while maintaining professionalism.

It is critical to align your goals with your supervisor’s goals . Your goals can be cascaded to the next level in the processes , for instance your hiring manager may have quality goals such as 30% reduction in PPM from overall plant level , and if you are responsible for the only certain portion of the overall processes , you can set a SMART goal of reducing ppm by a stretch target of 50% reduction from the previous baseline . This is to ensure that your goal is set on specific areas where it really matters, with measurable data are collected so the improvements are achievable/ actionable from data analytics . The goals are also have relevance to the overall objectives and can be set with time bounded aligned targets .

Communication and clear communication is the most important part. Get things in writing if possible that makes people think twice before the commitment. Once the right communication is setup you can always make sure about what you need to deliver and what time frame. Then you can set the tone of your work. Also if you are already aware of something is unachievable get it cleared to your boss already. Never over commit and under deliver.

I joined an industrial group as a CEO. The first problem I realized was the communication. Factories and departments heads meet without results. Then I ran some meetings and noticed that they urgue only. They don't listen to each other. Then I decided to run some meetings as a Traffic Man!! I allow one party to talk and tell all his ponits and reqsted the other party to just listen carefully and write points. After the first party finish his points, the second party is allowed to think first on the points he summarized and then speak up. After few meetings, the system of listening and positive thinking worked out and became effectively used. This turned the group up dramatically.

Once I joind a big family business group as a Supply Chain Director. I had a parallel experience as a business development consultant. I noticed that my new company is not having a Business Plan (BP), then I asked the Managing Diretor about it. He showed me an old BP and declared that they did not have the time to make an updated one for the running year. Accordingly, I offered him to prepare the whole group BP for the running year in a month time if he gives me authority to work it out with all related Sectors and Departments, and he did. After two months, we called for the fist monthly review meeting for the whole group.

Everyone is looking for success and initiative is the first stage of success. If you don't take initiative, you can't move further and reach to your goals.

It is a fact that lost time cannot be recovered. So, whatever time is available, use it a better way. Sometimes, you will be trapped in the wrong situation which makes it difficult to find a solution. But, at that time maintaining that situation also is an other way of respecting the time.

Never casually show up late. If you're going to be late, send a text or message in teams to inform them. Being late is excusable, it happens to everyone, but letting someone wonder "is someone coming?" is unprofessional.

“Think Win-Win” encourages mutual respect. Be punctual and efficient, respecting your boss’s time by being prepared for meetings and delivering tasks promptly.

When you have a problem, think of all the solutions to the problem and which one you would use. Then go to the boss, tell him of the problem and the solutions you have come up with and why you choose the solution that will best solve the issue. He will appreciate your efforts and will make you feel better.

Offering a solution to the pending problems is sure way to keep the relationship and bonding successful. Even if this requires out of the call of the duty.

Boundaries are very important in relationships. If you do not set and maintain your boundaries, those working conditions that are important to you, you set yourself up to be taken advantage of.

Always consider why is someone asking me to do this? What other benefits do they expect me to get out of this besides just completing this task or project. A good manager should assign work that develops a person in more than one way.
